Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy that’s based on the belief that certain health problems can be caused by stagnant blood and a poor energy flow through your body. To alleviate such problems, we apply silicone cups to the skin to create a pressure that sucks the skin inward, drawing blood to the affected area, attracting immune cells and reducing muscle tension and inflammation. The suction caused by placement of the cups encourages blood flow and lymphatic drainage and promotes the healing process whilst eliminating musculoskeletal pain. The Remedial Room practises dry cupping primarily, using sliding and gliding techniques that do not break contact with the skin.
Cupping is an excellent technique for people suffering with chronic pain, particularly back pain and headaches that may be caused by stress and anxiety. It is also an effective treatment following acute injuries to aid and repair muscle tears and enhance the recovery process. At the Remedial Room, we often use cupping to warm the superficial tissues and prepare the body for deep muscular work.
