What is Medical Camouflage Tattooing?
Medical camouflage tattooing, also known as permanent micro-pigmentation, is a specialized technique where we implant custom-blended, flesh-toned pigments into the dermal layer of your skin. Our goal is to restore the natural colour of your skin by meticulously matching and concealing discoloured areas like scars, stretch marks, burns, vitiligo and other skin discolorations.
Using a medical tattoo machine, our skilled medical tattooist works with single-use, sterile pigments that are well-tolerated by the body. We have a wide range of shades to ensure a precise match for all skin tones, creating realistic, seamless results that blend perfectly with your surrounding skin.
For your restorative micro-pigmentation, we adhere to the most rigorous safety protocols. The entire process is performed using single-use, sterile equipment, ensuring optimal hygiene. We carefully select our pigments, implanting only sterile mineral or organic pigments into your skin’s dermis layer using a medical tattoo machine. These pigments are CE class IIb medical devices, signifying their approval under strict European regulations for medical products, guaranteeing their safety and effectiveness for your treatment.

Duration:
For a small, finger-length scar or discolouration, a session may take under an hour. Larger areas, such as stretch marks or post-surgical scars (abdominoplasty, breast lifts, thigh lifts, etc.), typically require 2–3 hours per treatment. The exact time depends on the scar’s size, complexity, and characteristics.
Healing Period
Immediately after, you might experience mild redness or swelling, which usually subsides within a few days. The treated area will then go through a healing process involving some flaking or light scabbing, which is normal. It’s crucial to follow aftercare instructions carefully (avoiding sun, harsh products, picking). Full healing of the superficial skin layers usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. During this time, the pigment will settle, and its true colour will become visible.
Refinement/Touch-up Session:
About 4 to 8 weeks after the initial session (once the area is fully healed), a follow-up appointment is typically scheduled. This session is vital to assess how the pigment has settled and to make any necessary adjustments to the colour or coverage to achieve the optimal, seamless result.
Most clients require 1-2 sessions (and sometimes 3 for more complex scars) in total for desired results. Even small scars can sometimes benefit from a second session to perfect the blend.
Important Considerations for Scar Treatment:
Scar Maturity: It’s generally recommended that scars be at least 1 year old (and ideally 12-24 months) and fully healed, not red, and preferably paler than the surrounding skin, before undergoing medical tattooing. This allows the scar tissue to stabilize and ensures better pigment retention.
Individual Healing: Everyone’s skin heals differently, so the exact timelines can vary. To ensure optimal healing and lasting beauty, it’s important to protect the treated area from external factors like direct sun exposure, harsh cosmetics, and prolonged water immersion. By following these simple aftercare guidelines, your medical tattoo will typically maintain its camouflage effect for approx. 5 years, and you’re always welcome to return for a refreshment session whenever you feel it’s needed to revitalize the colour.
Desired Results: While this procedure delivers a remarkable long-term visual improvement by infusing the skin’s layers with custom-matched pigment, it’s important to understand that it enhances, rather than removes, the scar itself. Our work excels at dramatically improving discoloration and can even subtly refine the texture of the scar. This process effectively eliminates any stark whiteness, making the entire area significantly less noticeable and helping you feel more confident in your skin.
